Message from the Director

I am the Director of Work Study for Cristo Rey San Diego. I am very excited and passionate about the mission of Cristo Rey, as I believe students can succeed when given the right opportunity and that this program is impactful both in academics and real-world work experience and will prepare Cristo Rey San Diego students for a college education and productive lives of service.

The Cristo Rey Network is the largest network of high schools in the United States whose enrollment is limited to economically disadvantaged youth. Cristo Rey schools serve more than 12,400 students in 38 schools across the country. Cristo Rey schools are Catholic, college preparatory schools for students of all faiths and cultures.

Cristo Rey schools provide a high-quality education to those who would not otherwise have access. What really sets these schools apart is the Corporate Work Study Program: every student works five days per month at an entry-level position. Through job-sharing, corporate partners fill one full time equivalent position, and students earn their tuition while gaining job experience. This combination of real-world work experience and rigorous academics has proven results, including 23,100 graduates, 90% college enrollment and 2,800 work partners. Nationally, Cristo Rey graduates are 2x more likely to complete a bachelor’s degree by age 24, compared to the total U.S. low-income population.

The Cristo Rey San Diego Work Study Program benefits your company’s bottom line, our students’ educational career, and the greater good of our collective community through workforce development. If you are interested in your company’s participation in the Cristo Rey San Diego High School Corporate Work Study Program, you can contact me at 760-525-8017 or segge@cristoreysandiego.org.

Sincerely,

Steven Egge
