Cristo Rey San Diego High School Announces Appointment of New Principal, John Amann

San Diego, CA – May 2024 – Cristo Rey San Diego High School is excited to announce the appointment of Mr. John Amann as the new principal, effective July 1st. This appointment follows an extensive and competitive search process led by board member David Rivera and the dedicated search committee.

Over the past several months, the search committee has diligently narrowed the field of candidates through an intensive interview process. The culmination of this process was a full day of interviews in April, where the finalist engaged with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the leadership team at Cristo Rey San Diego.

Mr. John Amann emerged as the best candidate to lead Cristo Rey San Diego High School. Currently serving as the principal of St. Columba Catholic School, Mr. Amann brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. During his six-year tenure at St. Columba, he increased enrollment by 40%, facilitated over $1.5 million in facility improvements, improved standardized test scores by nearly 20%, and introduced innovative changes such as a fully departmentalized structure. His leadership has earned St. Columba recognition from the Diocese of San Diego, including the Innovative School Award in 2022 and the Inclusive School Award in 2024.

Mr. Amann is known for his data-informed approach, action-oriented mindset, student-focused initiatives, and family-centered leadership. He is committed to upholding the Catholic values that are central to Cristo Rey San Diego’s mission. His professional expertise is complemented by his strong personal values. Mr. Amann is happily married to his wife Marisa, also a principal in the Diocese of San Diego, and they have three children: Siena (8), Kolbe (5), and Jonah (2). He is also an avid sports fan, rooting for the Dodgers, Lakers, and Chargers.
