SAN DIEGO (NBC 7 San Diego) –
Cristo Rey San Diego Students Inspired by World Champion Surfer Shaun Tomson
Cristo Rey San Diego High School was honored to be featured on NBC 7 San Diego News and in The San Diego Union-Tribune for hosting World Champion professional surfer and motivational speaker Shaun Tomson at a special speaker assembly on Thursday.
Through a partnership with Shea Properties and Shea Family Charities, our students had the unique opportunity to hear Shaun’s powerful message on identifying purpose and taking ownership of their future. His presentation focused on his philosophy of the “CODE”—a set of personal commitments designed to help students navigate challenges, build resilience, and become the best versions of themselves.
“Every young person has the ability to define their own path and take ownership of their future,” Shaun shared as he engaged students in a reflective and inspiring discussion. Students were encouraged to write their own “CODE” statements, creating commitments that will guide them toward success both in school and beyond.
Shaun’s visit to Cristo Rey San Diego was part of his Positive Waves speaking tour, which has been empowering students across Southern California since January. His journey as a world-class athlete and advocate for personal growth left a lasting impression on our students, who walked away with new motivation to set goals, take action, and believe in their potential.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Shea Properties and Shea Family Charities for making this event possible and to NBC 7 and The San Diego Union-Tribune for highlighting this incredible moment for our school.
Stay tuned for more inspiring moments from our Cristo Rey community!
