Cristo Rey Earns Platinum Recognition on the 2025 AP School Honor Roll for the Second Consecutive Year

Cristo Rey San Diego High School has been named to the College Board’s AP School Honor Roll for the 2024–25 school year, earning Platinum recognition for the second consecutive year. This distinction recognizes schools that expand access to Advanced Placement coursework while supporting students in earning college credit and preparing for long-term academic success.

The AP School Honor Roll highlights schools nationwide that demonstrate strong commitment to college readiness through three core areas: building a college-going culture, increasing opportunities to earn college credit, and supporting students in sustained academic rigor over time.

What Platinum Recognition Means

Platinum is the highest level of recognition on the AP School Honor Roll. Schools earning this distinction meet or exceed benchmarks across all three categories, reflecting both access and achievement.

For the Class of 2025, Cristo Rey San Diego exceeded Platinum benchmarks in every area:
• College Culture: More than 100 percent of graduating seniors took at least one AP exam during high school
• College Credit: 72 percent of seniors earned a score of 3 or higher on an AP exam, qualifying for college credit at many institutions
• College Optimization: 43 percent of seniors completed five or more AP exams during their high school years, with at least one taken in ninth or tenth grade

These outcomes significantly surpass the Platinum thresholds set by the College Board and reflect sustained academic engagement across multiple graduating classes.

Why This Matters for Cristo Rey Students

Advanced Placement coursework plays a critical role in Cristo Rey’s college preparatory model. AP classes provide students with early exposure to college-level expectations, strengthen academic confidence, and help reduce the cost of college by earning credit before graduation.

Earning Platinum recognition for a second year underscores that Cristo Rey’s AP program is not limited to a single cohort, but is part of a consistent, schoolwide commitment to academic preparation and opportunity. Both graduating classes to date have contributed to this achievement through sustained effort, strong instruction, and a culture that encourages students to take on meaningful academic challenges.

A Consistent Commitment to College Readiness

“This recognition reflects years of intentional work by our students, teachers, and academic team,” said John Amann, Principal. “Earning Platinum recognition for a second year shows that we are building systems that support students over time, not just in one moment. Our goal has always been to prepare students for the expectations of college and beyond, and this honor affirms that commitment.”

Cristo Rey San Diego High School remains focused on expanding access to rigorous coursework while ensuring students are supported every step of the way. The AP School Honor Roll recognition affirms the strength of that approach and the dedication of the entire Cristo Rey community.
