Cristo Rey San Diego High School is set to open doors to the inaugural class of freshman on Monday, August 17, 2020.
This new, private high school was approved as the 39th school in the Cristo Rey Network by the Cristo Rey national Board of Directors last month. The Cristo Rey Network was founded in Chicago in 1996 and is known for their innovative Corporate Work Study Program, through which every student works five days per month at a professional position to earn their tuition.
Cristo Rey San Diego will be the 6th Cristo Rey Network school in the state of California. It is the first of its kind in San Diego and offers an affordable option for a college preparatory education for low- to moderate-income families.
In this learning environment, Cristo Rey will educate young people to become men and women of faith, purpose and service. This unique model combines college-preparatory education with a Corporate Work Study Program, giving students the opportunity to gain skills and confidence while working in professional entry-level positions. Thirty-six San Diego companies have committed to hire students, including Sempra Energy, CBRE, Scripps Mercy Hospital, Sheppard Mullin, and Chase Bank.
Cristo Rey San Diego will enroll 125 students in the founding freshman class. Applications are now being accepted.
