Draft Day 2020

On August 21, Cristo Rey San Diego hosted our inaugural Draft Day! The event marked the end of Summer Success Academy and the beginning of the Corporate Work Study year. Each student learned where they will be working this year, and met their work teams. 

Students were treated to a special guest speaker. Mickey Pimental, former NFL player, is a proud graduate of St Jude Academy. He spoke of how important St Jude was to him, and how exciting it is to have Cristo Rey open in its place. Board member Mark Zangrando emceed the event.

Cristo Rey students will work with San Diego companies including AimLoan, Rady Children’s Hospital, Scripps Mercy Hospital, USS Midway, and Latham & Watkins. While companies maintained physical distance and did not attend the event, they welcomed the students with personalized video messages and company swag.
